The Truth About the High-Quality Materials We Use
Share
In a world where we’re all becoming more conscious consumers, it’s only natural that we’ve started paying more attention to the labels on our clothes. We scan for familiar words and often make snap judgments based on preconceived notions. Words like "cotton" feel safe and natural, while words like "polyester" or "nylon" can sometimes raise an eyebrow, bringing to mind outdated ideas of cheap, uncomfortable materials.
But the truth is, the name of a fibre on a label doesn’t tell the whole story. Not even close. The world of textiles has evolved dramatically, and the quality, feel, and performance of a fabric depend entirely on the quality of its fibres, the way it’s manufactured, and how it’s blended. A fabric is so much more than its name.
We believe in complete transparency about the materials we use. We are incredibly proud of them, and we want to take this opportunity to bust a few common myths and give you an honest look into why we choose the specific fabrics we do. It’s time to separate the facts from the fiction.
Myth #1: "Nylon and Polyester are just cheap, sweaty plastics."
The Old Reality: Let’s be honest, this myth comes from a real place. We’ve all likely encountered a cheap, poorly made synthetic garment from decades past that felt stiff, trapped heat, and was generally unpleasant to wear. This experience has, understandably, given some synthetic fibres a bad reputation.
The Modern Truth: Today’s high-quality synthetic fibres are marvels of textile engineering, designed for performance and comfort. Think of it like this: a diamond and a piece of coal are both made of carbon, but their quality and structure make them entirely different. It’s the same with fabrics.
Our Nylon, which you’ll find in our Core and Ribbed Seamless collections, is a true performance powerhouse. We choose it for its incredible strength and durability—it resists abrasion and pilling far better than most natural fibres. It also has a beautifully smooth, cool-to-the-touch feel. Most importantly, it is an exceptional moisture-wicker. This means it actively pulls moisture away from your skin to the surface of the fabric, where it can evaporate quickly. This is the exact opposite of trapping sweat; it’s a process designed to keep you dry and comfortable.
Similarly, the Polyester in our hoodie blend is a crucial supporting actor. Its primary role is to provide strength and stability. It helps the hoodie hold its shape, prevents the natural cotton from shrinking or stretching out, and ensures the colour stays rich and vibrant for years. It’s the secret ingredient for longevity.
Myth #2: "If it's not 100% natural fibre, it's not high quality."
The Love for Natural Fibres: We absolutely adore natural fibres. There is nothing quite like the soft, breathable, classic feel of our 100% Premium Cotton T-Shirt. For an everyday essential designed for its gentle feel and effortless drape, pure premium cotton is the perfect choice. We will always champion it for this purpose.
The Limitation for Performance: However, for activewear or pieces that require stretch and shape retention, 100% natural fibres have their limits. Pure cotton, for example, is highly absorbent. When you sweat, it soaks up moisture like a sponge, becoming heavy, wet, and slow to dry, which can lead to discomfort and chafing. It also naturally loses its shape when stretched.
The Power of the Blend: This is why a thoughtful blend is often the true hallmark of a high-quality, functional garment. It combines the best qualities of different fibres to create something superior.
-
Nylon + Spandex (Our Leggings): We get the durability and moisture-wicking power of the nylon, combined with the incredible four-way stretch and shape-retention of spandex. This blend is what allows you to move with total freedom while ensuring your leggings never become baggy.
-
Cotton + Polyester (Our Hoodie): We get the unmatched softness and breathability of cotton, combined with the durability and structural integrity of polyester. The result is a piece that is both incredibly comfortable and truly built to last.
Myth #3: "If the label says 'cotton' or 'nylon', it's all the same stuff."
This is perhaps the biggest myth of all. Every single fibre, whether natural or man-made, exists on an enormous spectrum of quality.
Take cotton, for example. The "Premium Cotton" we use is made from long-staple fibres. These longer fibres can be spun into a yarn that is much smoother, softer, and stronger than the short-staple cotton used in cheap, mass-produced t-shirts that often feel rough and start to fall apart after a few washes.
The same is true for our Nylon/Spandex blend. The market is flooded with thin, flimsy leggings that become see-through the moment you bend over. This is a result of low-quality yarn and a loose, cheap knit. Our fabric, by contrast, uses a high-quality, fine-gauge yarn in a dense, interlocking knit. This is what creates that buttery-soft, yet completely opaque and supportive, second-skin feel. The quality of the raw materials and the manufacturing process makes all the difference.
The name on a fabric label is just the beginning of the story. The true measure of a garment is found in the integrity of its materials and the thoughtfulness of its design. Our commitment is to always choose the absolute best material for the specific purpose of each garment, whether that’s a pure natural fibre, an advanced performance synthetic, or a clever blend of both. We encourage you to look beyond the myths and focus on what really matters: the feel, the fit, and the quality. That’s the real truth of a garment that’s made to be loved and lived in for years to come.
